There is an issue with Ubuntu Netbook Remix (UNR), with Mic recording on Eee PC 1000H. The problem is with the “pulsaudio”. I will not go in deep details, but the fix is quite simple. All you have to do is remove the pulseaudio. To do this, open your terminal and run the following command.
sudo apt-get remove pulseaudio
This shouold do the trick. Cheers and good luck.

Note that doing this also removes the ubuntu-netbook-remix package. I don’t know what the implications of this might be as updates come out in the future.
So are there any tradeoffs from removing pulseaudio? Do I lose any features from removing it?
Whut? This will also remove ubuntu-netbook-remix and ubuntu-desktop among others. Not sure I want to do this.
sudo apt-get remove pulseaudio only removes the pulseaudio package.
Cheers!
Hmmm… I looked at doing this on my Acer Aspire One as I am also having skype audio problems. “sudo apt-get remove pulseaudio” does indeed come back and say it is going to remove not only the pulseaudio package, but also the ubuntu-netbook-remix package, freeing 1880kB of disk space. I aborted the operation rather than risk it. JPierre, did you see the same message?
Same pulse sound troubles here on a eee 1000hd, tried “sudo apt-get remove pulseaudio” and got a message it would remove 2 packages freeing 1880kB, confirmed the action. the sound works great now (after rebooting), I suspect the message “pulseaudio ubuntu-netbook-remix” is just 1 word and not “pulseaudio” and “ubuntu-netbook-remix”
Thanks JPierre, worked great to enable the mic on my eee 901/UNR!
I used Jpierre’s fix (for which I was very grateful). It worked, the mic now works, the netbook interface is still there etc. However, checking in Synaptic the package “ubuntu-netbook-remix” has indeed been removed. It still seems to work without this but the package description says it is important for getting the right updates. So now I an not so sure that there isn’t an unfortunate side affect of this fix.
Bonjour.
J’ai bien supprimé pulseaudio. Mon micro ne fait cependant (semble t-il aucune acquisition.
Pourriez vous me dire quel contrôleur de son utilisez vous et quels sont vos réglages dans skype.
Merci
Thanks!
That worked on my Eeepc 1000HA.

I found an alternative solution here:

Now I have skype working on my packard bell dot with ubuntu netbook remix 9.04 without having to remove pulse or the netbook-remix package.

Thanks for the help. I installed Ubuntu Netbook Remix and completely removed XP Home. Your directions made it a snap. I have a Dell Mini 10 and I was also having problems with my microphone not working so I removed pulse audio and it now works…sort of! I have to practically yell to be heard. Any ideas? Thanks!
1000HA/9.10 Ubuntu owner. Banged my head up against a wall and surfed gigs of bandwidth looking for the Skype fix. I was sceptical of your fix, then I realized, what’s the big deal? Pull down Pulse again if it doesn’t work!
Your fix was indeed the cure!
Way cool! Skype with Ubuntu finally!
perfect.
worked amazingly good thx
Thanks for this it worked a treat for me!!! :)
