Personally I just wish more phones had good email support. Just replace SMS with push email (like Japan has). Unfortunately that would take away all that SMS profit. That would make it easier to interface with online sites. We are stuck in the dark age of phones. :(

Which operators support email to sms? It would be so convenient to have that service.

@Mostafa; Thanks for your comment. I believe you are right in what you said, but what I am mainly referring at is the way identi.ca is sending the SMS. It seams they are using an email to SMS protocol, which I am not sure if the Egyptian Mobile Operators are supporting, but there is an 80% chance they are.

I will forward you an email on this subject though, and tell me what you think and if we can do anything.

Identi.ca’s advantage is its open platform that allows microblogging services using a certain protocol to intercommunicate.

Which means that you can setup a local Laconica server and program it to send SMS to Egyptian phones only. This way local identi.ca users can get SMS from your server. This is what I understood.
